Corset Cookie Favors

Sexy corset cookies - fun and affordable for your next bachelorette party. If sifting flour and baking from scratch is about as attractive to you as changing a flat tire in a thunder storm, you have to appreciate anyone who can make a perfectly shaped hand-cut sugar cookie. And that’s just the beginning. Making the perfect royal icing with consistency fine enough to make intricate designs and yet firm enough to hold its shape is pure magic, or mad skills or both. Between $2.00 to $3.00 each (for a set of 12), these hot pink corset cookies are about 5 x 3 1/2 " and made from a delicious sugar cookie dough recipe and then individually wrapped in a cellophane with matching ribbon.

Origami Flower Bouquets

Origami flower bouquets - would you pay up to $300 for a wedding keepsake of folded paper flowers? What if you knew it took hundreds of hours to make compared to a traditional bouquet of fresh flowers or silk - put together in let's say - under an hour? These bouquets were available at the time of writing this post at Posh Studios on Etsy - although I don't see them listed as I update this in 2017. Maybe not enough brides were willing to pay that much for a handcrafted bouquet, I just don't know. I do know fresh flowers like the lovely white roses I carried will eventually decay and die, but a bouquet like one of these would look as cute and colorful twenty years from now as it did on the day you first walked down the aisle.

Wedding Candle Centerpiece Ideas

Romantic candle centerpieces - they don't need to be complicated or expensive, just very well placed. I love the long weathered table, dressed only in a rustic burlap runner with simple white tapers and surrounded by fresh, fragrant eucalyptus. I know I would feel well-loved here, sipping ice cold champagne over Grilled Tuna with Lemon Butter Sauce. All of us love a table that's warm and welcoming. Even white dollar store candles can make it so.

Rustic Pine Cone Boutonnieres

I absolutely adore this pine cone boutonniere I found this morning on Etsy. A lovely little perfectly-shaped pinecone, some twine, small satin ribbon and a corsage pin for just over ten dollars. If you're comfortable with a pair of pliers and a mini handsaw, you can easily make your own. Create your rustic boutonniere from the "flower" that appears at the bottom of every pinecone. Here's a great guide from Martha Stewart on how to make a pinecone boutonniere.

Caramel Corn Wedding Favors

Caramel corn wedding favors are fun and easy to make with popped corn, peanuts, corn syrup, butter and brown sugar. And if you do make your own, keep it in an airtight container - away from heat and humidity - where it should stay fresh up to one month (obviously, the sooner you use it, the better). If you purchase store bought caramel corn, keep it in its original packaging until the time you get ready to display it in small kraft bags or Mason jars wrapped in burlap and tied in baker's twine. Unlike the type you make at home from scratch, this caramel corn has preservatives and will stay fresh from 30 to 60 days.

Wedding Chalkboard Ideas

Chalkboard wedding ideas - where you download a free wedding printable, or paint and produce a custom chalkboard sign yourself, many of these add a touch of whimsy to a celebration that is both sacred and serious. The wedding memorial sign, "In honor of those watching from Heaven - We Love You!" is so sweet and thoughtful I hardly know where to start.

Download these free chalkboard wedding arrows from Evermine.

Check your local craft stores but Amazon carries two sizes of these oval tree slices

Peacock Inspired Weddings

Peacock inspired weddings - a combination of royal blue, deep purple and iridescent green that is elegant and stylish any time of year. This exquisite peacock hand corsage - once featured at an Etsy shop that appears to be in vacation mode as of this writing, steals my heart away. It is designed with small, trimmed peacock feathers and curled plumes, teal and violet millinery leaves, teal spotted guinea feathers, and a sparkling rhinestone button. All of these are attached to a comfortable black pearl beaded wrist band that is less than two inches wide. A lovely corsage for a peacock themed wedding I wish was still available, but could be recreated with inspiration from the photo below.

Looking Lovely in a Birdcage Veil

A simple birdcage veil has all the loveliness of traditional wedding veils without the big ticket price. And yet in April of this year we saw Kate Middleton wear a waist length, silk tulle wedding veil by Alexander McQueen on her wedding day and she looked absolutely breathtaking. Which kind do you love best? A low cost veil you can easily remove for an outdoor or destination wedding or a jaw-dropping, lace edged veil with hand embroidered flowers? The beauty of a bird cage veil is there are so many tutorials available on how to make your own. I have created several myself - each inside of one hour - and the results were as elegant and attractive as the lovely one featured here.

Playful Polka Dot Wedding Cakes

Polka dot wedding cakes - what could be more playful, more joyful, more fun? Your mom and dad and soon-to-be in laws showed up to have a really great time. Lots of love and lots of laughs. Toddlers in tuxedos and little old ladies going crazy in the Conga line. A day like no other - the day you exchange vows with your best friend, your lover, your soul mate. Why not make it fresh and funny? Of course your clan will be impressed with the Baked Salmon with Horseradish Crust. But for young and old and everyone in between, nothing beats the surprise and sheer joy of a playful polka dot wedding cake.

Purple Wedding Day

A purple themed wedding, it's what I might do if I had to marry the same sweet Italian-American guy all over again. Purple and green - purple and blue - purple and silver, all beautiful color combinations. Unbelievably, my wedding colors were pale pink and light blue. Thankfully enough, the marriage has worked out long and well in spite of my weirdly-chosen baby shower colored wedding theme. Today my choice might very well be purple...deep and delicious purple like this amazingly beautiful bouquet of dark purple tulips.

Rustic Grapevine Cake Toppers

This rustic grapevine cake topper is a great eco-friendly wedding idea that eliminates the need for paper, metal or plastic cake toppers that leave a heavier carbon footprint on the beautiful blue planet we all call home. RusticDesignsByAmie invites you to visit her cake topper album on Facebook to view her different styles. If you have a favorite font, she'll do her best to accommodate you. A six inch tall topper, with wooden dowels that insert into the cake, sells for $44.00 (plus about ten dollars more for shipping). Amie can create the grapevine thinner for a more elegant look, or wider for a more rustic themed wedding.

The Joy of Short Husbands

With my Dad and brother both six feet two, I naturally grew up thinking all men were tall. When I reached my full height of 5’6” in seventh grade, I suddenly found myself looking down at top of the heads of boys the same age, one of whom I just assumed would one day be Mr. Right. During the summer between seventh and eighth grade happened. Boys that were five feet tall standing on their tippy toes in June now had to duck their heads going in the cafeteria door in September. So once again men were tall, just as I had been lead to believe.

Having witnessed the sketchy intellect of the tall grown-up neighborhood boys, one of whom told me Shakespeare was a brand of fishing reel (which it is), but definitely was not a person. Boys were fun to look up at but easy to look down on. A lucky chance encounter brought my future husband (from upstate New York) into my life at age 22, and you can guess the rest. A small, but very smart guy, but big on making me laugh, especially at myself.

Flaming Red Wedding Bouquet

A red wedding bouquet is a top priority for many December brides, myself included. Even though the heat index is well over 100 degrees from Phoenix to Fort Smith, there's no better time to plan for the perfect winter wedding bouquet. With the huge variety of wedding flowers today - tulips, baby's breath, peonies, dahlias and daisies - roses are still the number one favorite for most American brides. Red roses have always been symbolic for passion and pleasure, courage and beauty. And there is nothing more breathtakingly beautiful than this bouquet of bright red roses with iridescent rhinestone jewels.

Pepe Botella Wedding Gowns

Pepe Botella wedding gowns - "a symphony of creations for women of today with the taste of the detail of yesterday." Kate Middleton was breathtakingly beautiful in her lacy, long-sleeved, sweetheart-neckline wedding gown with lace overlay and ivory silk tulle veil trimmed with hand-embroidered flowers. Sarah Burton obviously knows her way around a needle and thread. But I can’t help but think what if Spanish designer Pepe Botella had created just for Kate - a sexy ruffled wedding gown instead? Unthinkable that the future queen would look that dramatic on her wedding day, but somehow I wish she could.

Football Grooms Cake Ideas

Football grooms cakes - a great idea considering seventy five percent of all American men are obsessed with the game. Unlike basketball where all of the drama comes down to the last few minutes or even seconds, football can keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. How many times have I seen a team, positioned on their opponent’s one yard line, so close they can almost taste it, and they can’t seem to get the job done? And just two minutes later, a new receiver, a fresh-faced graduate from Ohio State, receives the kick off and sprints a full ninety nine yards past all the overweight, overpaid pros and becomes the hero of the day. That's why, along with fifty five percent of other American women, I'm a huge football (Giants) fan.
